Player Commitment
This is an elite club and only players with rugby experience will be considered. Players are expected to show-up at the training camp in fit, game-ready condition. During the season it is expected that even this level of fitness will be increased. If you want to be a Gee-Gee you must COMMIT to the following MANDATORY requirements:
Policy on Team
Selection
The Gee-Gees Men’s Rugby Club will consist of two sides. They are the ‘A’ side and the ‘B’ side. The ‘A’ side will be the more experienced players and the ‘B’ side will be the development team. The starting team members will be selected by the Head Coach with input from the Assistant Coaches, the Manager, the Team Trainer and the Team Captain. Selection will be based on ability, fitness and the Mandatory factors outlined above. Players may move from the ‘B’ side to the ‘A’ side and vice-versa depending on their performance. All players are expected to attend practices and games in order to qualify for playing time. Depending upon the number of players trying out, there may be cuts in order to get to a manageable group size.
An important factor that will be taken into consideration is consistency in attending practice. Practices have been arranged so that they do not interfere with classes. All players will attend all practices. Even if you are injured, you are expected to show up at practice unless you are totally incapacitated by your injury or excused by the Coach. The policy is that if a player misses a week of practice or attends on a random basis, he will be removed from the club roster at the discretion of the Head Coach.
